Croatian gold coins and gold medals
The Croatian gold coins and gold medals offered by Centar Zlata were produced by the Croatian Monetary Institute, and the production of commemorative gold coins was approved by Croatian National Bank. The reason for minting these gold coins is promoviewing the Croatian cultural heritage or celebrating events such as the 300th anniversary of the victory of the Knights of Sinj over the Turkish invaders. Gold coins are minted in limited quantities, so based on their rarity, they could one day have numismatic value. For example, the Čipkarstvo gold coin in Croatia will be minted in an amount of no more than 5.000 pieces, and the Sinjska alka gold coin in an amount of no more than 10.000 pieces.
The difference between gold coins and gold medals is that gold coins have a stated nominal value in Croatian kuna on one page. For example the King Tomislav gold coin has a face value of HRK 20. Because of this, it once had the status of a legal tender in the Republic of Croatia and was exempt from all taxes. Gold coins are deliberately given a nominal value much lower than the value of the gold in an individual gold coin so that they are not used in everyday payments.
